Meet
Babycakes
Meet Babycakes
Babycakes or "Baby" is a talkative, intelligent bird who loves spending time with her favorite person. Although she does not like being handled, she enjoys other forms of engagement like working/tricks for treats, head scratches on her own terms (usually with a toy), and having "conversations" with people she likes. She has a lot of potential for someone who is looking for a bird they can grow a relationship with and train. In her current foster home, she is mostly a "one-person bird" and prefers her foster mom over her foster dad. Baby would love a home with a primary person who can keep her company, devote daily time to connecting with her, and provide her with plenty of enrichment opportunities (foraging, shredding, exploring, and observing).
About
Babycakes
Has plucked a little bit under her wing. We are monitoring her and expect this to disappear with time with a change in diet.
Age or hatch date:
22 yrs
Gender:
Female
Best qualities:
Very smart, has a large vocabulary, knows some tricks and likes to learn new ones, not a "velcro bird"
Favorite food:
Squash, farro, and "veggie egg souffle" that her foster mom can teach you how to make. Favorite treats are apple slices, safflower seeds, nutriberries, whole hard corn kernels from seed mixes, pine nuts in the shell, and a sip of lukewarm herbal tea from your cup.
Favorite toys:
Baby teething rings, plastic toy mini-maracas, plastic poker chips, wood foraging drawer blocks, and toys made from shreddable materials like mahogany pods, cork, balsa wood, and cardboard.
Dowel or step-up trained:
Often steps to a dowel, especially with a treat involved, but is nervous while moving on it. Working on stepping up to a hand.
Challenges:
Fearful of new things (will fear-bite). Very smart, so as she gets comfortable you need to keep an eye on her if she starts to wander.
Vocabulary:
"Hi", "Peekaboo", "What are you doing?", "What?", "Scratch scratch", "Meow", "Come here!", "Pretty girl", a phone ringing followed by "Hello", many kinds of whistles/beeps, and much more.
Health issues:
Has plucked a little bit under her wing. We are monitoring her and expect this to disappear with time with a change in diet.
