Meet
Ruby
I am an active and silly bird who will entertain you for hours as I play fetch with myself. I throw my jingly ball as hard and as far as I can and then run after it giving a good shake when I retrieve it causing a cute dinging sound. It is pretty adorable. But I can be a bit possessive of my ball so don’t try to take it away from me. Also I am particular.. .it has to be this jingly ball and no other toys in my cage. I also have a vocabulary and say things like “pretty bird” which I am. I have the most stunning colors all over me and it will be hard to not to fall in love with me. I also make the sweetest noises like whistling and laughing. I am sure with time and patience I can learn other things. I am very smart.
I don’t step up but if you open my cage and stand close I will hop on your shoulder for some time. I love being with my people. However I must be supervised at all times. I have been known to get into things I am not supposed to. But I do the most delightful jumping around on the floor and show off my mad skills to my foster family. They think I am pretty great! Especially the teenager living there. Care must also be taken with me around other birds. I have been known to be aggressive with the bird in the cage next to me who was relinquished from the same home… so… we are no longer allowed out at the same time.
I am a bit of a social butterfly and like to be where the activity is so having my cage in a common room with the family will be important. I like the attention and can be a bit upset when I am separated from the action. I love family time... what can I say.
I would suggest doing some research on Lorikeets since we have a very special diet. We are nectar eaters and so special food will need to be supplied. We also can be a bit messy as we projectile poop out of our cage… I don’t want it in here with me… I am a clean neat boy after all. EBR has suggestions of things to do to keep the mess down.
